What is the easiest way to get rid of fish tank parasites?
I do not have time to go to the pet store right now. The parasites in my 30 gallon fish tank are driving me nuts, but they arent hurting my fish they just bother me. I wanna be able to know the easiest way to get rid of them without hurting my fish and how to prevent them. Whenever I put conditioning salt in the tank it nocks down the number of parasites but the number goes right back up again. How do I get rid of them for good?
First off they are probably not parasites, just scavengers. Trying to control them with chemical means will probably not work, and is likely to kill your fish.
Better to control the conditions that are causing them to flourish. That is extra food and waste in the gravel. So reduce the amount of food and increase the gravel vacuming. Depending on your tank size some bottom dwelling fish like small catfish and loaches may help, both by eating the leftover food, and eating the little scavenger critters themselves.
Raining down chemical death to ‘fix’ a biological problem in the tank is just asking for trouble. Better to adjust the system in a natural way, reduce their food supply and intoduce a predator to control them.
